PHILIPS HEARTSTART // PROACTIVE IDEA

Rapid response team
A sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen anywhere at any time. And in an SCA, chances of survival dramatically decrease every minute that a patient’s heart does not receive defibrillation. An ambulance takes an average of 10 minutes to reach a patient where as an Uber takes under 4 minutes to reach someone. In both the USA and England, it’s been proven that in many cases Uber is much faster to reach its destination than the emergency services. To prove that every second counts when someone is suffering from a cardiac arrest, we thought Philips could partner with Uber to help get a Philips HeartStart to someone in need quicker.

Philips will loan HeartStart defibrillators to a number of Uber drivers and train them to use the machines. If there is an emergency, they can deliver the defibrillator to the scene and administer the first aid treatment if the ambulance has not yet arrived. Using Uber drivers also shows the public that the machines are so easy to use that ordinary people like Uber drivers can feel confident to treat someone suffering an SCA. This idea not only spreads the importance of owning a HeartStart defibrillator but could actually save lives too.
